Nurturing the Mind, Body, & Spirit

Hello & Welcome!

My name is Alder (like the tree), but you can call me Al. I’m a Black, trans man and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New York. I work primarily with young adults, queer/trans folks, current and former sex workers, people living with HIV/AIDS, and Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color hoping to nurture their minds, bodies, and spirits. My clinical focus is in trauma, identity formation, and disordered eating.

I believe therapy is a place for you to show up as you are, without compromise, with a witness and advocate by your side. It is a great honor and privilege to be a therapist.

My approach to therapy is rooted in warmth, authenticity, and the belief that healing cannot be separated from the worlds we live in. I strive to create an affirming space where all emotions—including anger, sadness, and grief—are welcome, and where we can explore not only what hurts, but the personal, relational, and systemic forces that have shaped your experiences. I am as kind as I am direct, using evidence-based interventions to help you challenge the stories, beliefs, and patterns that may keep you feeling stuck. Together, we can make sense of the stories you've inherited, reconnect with your strengths, challenge what no longer serves you, and cultivate a relationship with yourself that feels more compassionate, authentic, and free.

You don't need to have everything figured out or know exactly where to begin; we can figure that out together. Whether you've been in therapy for years or this is your very first session, you are so welcome here. I'm glad you're here, and we will take this one step at a time.
